BMW Z4 Alpina

October 26th, 2009 by Martin

There has been a distinct lack of write-ups recently for Midlands Detailing and we apologise for this but spare time has been hard to come by! We’re having a busier period than normal at this time of year and would like to thank all of our customers for that.

This car we thought deserved a write up.

The BMW Z4 Alpina is a limited edition car with only approximately 129 of them being in the UK in the colour of this one. Unfortunately the previous owner hasn’t really spent much time cherishing this one and the new owner is on a mission to sort that.

The car was dropped to us on a wintery Friday night almost fresh from having some road rash on the front bumper sorted. From the pics below it was certainly feeling sorry for itself:

In our normal fashion, the car was foamed with an APC mix and the details treated to some stronger APC and a swissvax brush, the roof included.

This was then jetted off and the vehicle washed with a two bucket method after being foamed with Hyperwash. The wheels were treated to some Bilberry non acidic wheel cleaner at this point as well.

Following another rinse down the car was treated for tar with tardis and clayed. No gratuitous pictures of filthy clay today though, this one was actually in good nick!

Now for the post wash inspection to see what we were really facing and things were looking grim for our weekend:

Not put off by the fantastic T Cut marks or Random Deep Scratches we set out testing combos and settled on a Meguiars red cutting pad and some Menzerna 203S. This gave us some fantastic  50/50 correction shots:

Bonnet corrected and wing not.

Once it was all corrected the car was treated to black hole for an over night period. Next day the black hole was removed and the dust from the polish was rinsed out of the shuts for the final inspection of the paintwork. We thought we would introduce a new section to this write up, a video of how the water beaded and sheeted on the bonnet during the cars rinse. We had refined the bonnet with some cleaner fluid medium and tried some HD cleanse to see how it looked  just before this shot was taken:

The car was dried and treated to some Hertiage Wax applied using the DA polisher. Overall a pleasurable detail and the pictures really do speak for themselves…
